The full implementation of BC’s new curriculum is scheduled for the 2018-19 school year. The new curriculum focuses on individualized and personalized learning, student-centered teaching, and flexibility within the learning environment.

With this in mind, St. Andrew’s will implement Focus Blocks into our Bell and Block schedule beginning this 2017-18 school year. Focus Blocks will occur Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday as 50 minute mandatory blocks. Students’ primary responsibility in Focus Blocks is to receive support from teachers in subject areas of greatest need. Students may also use Focus Blocks to complete assignments, project work, group work, and missed tests. When doing well in all courses, students are encouraged to spend time with teachers in subject areas of personal interest, take advantage of opportunities to broaden and further learning, and provide leadership, mentorship and service to our school and community.

Focus Blocks allow students and staff to work together for the benefit of student learning and development, reflecting the main focuses of the new curriculum. Students will be supported to ensure they make effective use of their time.

The attached FAQ will provide additional details to students, parents, and guardians.

If you have any questions regarding Focus Blocks and the associated Bell and Block change, please contact Ms. Cathy Fowlie at cfowlie@cisdv.bc.ca or Mr. Keleher akeleher@cisdv.bc.ca

Testimonials
This is how I explain what religion at this school teaches me. Sure I learn the history and analyze the Bible, but I also have been forming a set of morals and values that will go with me for the rest of my life. They are the foundation of who I am.

I am very excited to be able to link my Olympic journey, full of trials and tribulations, back to a very important time and place in my life: St. Andrew's Regional High School.

I feel truly blessed to have had the privilege of attending St. Andrew’s Regional High School. St. Andrew’s has given me the opportunity to grow spiritually, academically, artistically, and athletically.
